Bananas are such versatile fruit and they can be used in so many different ways to make a wide variety of dishes. If you have too many bananas, dehydrated banana chips is an easy way that won’t take up much time or effort to turn them into something delicious!
Here’s how to dehydrate bananas using an air fryer.
1. Slice the bananas into thin pieces, around one and a half centimeters (0.59 inches) or less in thickness. It doesn’t matter if the slices are uniform or not as they will all be mixed up together on the baking sheet anyway.
2. Arrange banana slices onto a parchment paper-covered baking sheet and make sure they aren’t overlapping each other too much. You don’t want too many slices on one sheet, but it’s okay if you have to use two sheets simultaneously for this step!
3. Bake in an air fryer at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25 minutes until the bananas are dried out completely through their centers when checked with a skewer.
4. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before storing into a jar or other container for storage. Store dehydrated banana chips in an airtight container for up to two weeks at room temperature, longer if you store them in the fridge or freezer!
How long does it take to dehydrate bananas in an air fryer?
It takes about 25 minutes to dehydrate bananas in an air fryer, which is a lot less time than it would take to dehydrate them in an oven!
Banana slices can be dried out quickly and easily using a standard home oven. Simply arrange the banana slices onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and place into a preheated 300 degree Fahrenheit oven for around 20 minutes until they are dried completely through their centers. Test the chips by inserting a skewer or toothpick – if it comes out dry, your banana chips are ready!
This is a very simple recipe that anyone can follow as it does not need any additional ingredients besides the bananas themselves. You can enjoy these as a snack alone or sprinkle onto yogurts, salads, oatmeal, cereal and more! They’re also great for making homemade banana bread too!
