Eating out is fun, convenient, and has a lot of variety but with all this, it is heavy on pocket. It is also a health risk as no one can care much about hygiene for you like yourself. To solve this issue, there are many kitchen appliances in the market now and the most famous of them are; air fryers and halogen ovens. Both these appliances are designed to cook food with less oil content.
The area of expertise for both these appliances is frying and roasting. And we all know fried and roasted foods are notorious to have more oil content in them. These appliances offer you to deliver these tasty foods with low oil content that means without risking your health.
Air fryer vs halogen oven
There are a lot of similarities in the functions of both these appliances that confuse consumers to choose one of them. As both functions by circulating hot air, both deliver food with low oil content and many more. to understand the difference and to choose the one that you feel is more appropriate, first, you need to know how they work.
The working mechanism of the air fryer
All air fryers work on the same mechanism, only quality differs. There is a coil in every air fryer that heats up to the adjusted level. Most air fryers give a temperature range between 100-400F. So, it will heat up to whatever limit you fix. Air will get warmer with the heat of the coil. Then a built-in rod in it will circulate this hot air all around the food. The basket that contains the food is perforated, so air reaches the food from all directions to ensure even cooking. This is how air fryers work.

Halogen oven
Halogen ovens except for having a coil works through infrared radiations. We can not see these radiations through the naked eye. These infrared rays produce heat energy, the heat is then circulated around the food by an integrated fan.
Now as you know the working mechanism of both these appliances, I summarize the key differences between the two.
Heat source – the source of heat in an air fryer is a coil that raises the temperature, while in a halogen oven the source of heat energy is infrared radiations.
Roasting vs frying- Although both appliances are designed to deliver both of these cooking functions; roasting and frying but still practically there is a difference. Each of these appliances is better in one function than the other. Air fryers are better at frying food than roasting, and halogen ovens are better at roasting than frying. If you are more into one function either roasting or frying, you can choose the one that suits your needs.
But if you equally want more of these functions, you need to choose the one that is comparatively more efficient for both. In my opinion that is based on testing, if you choose the best air fryer that will deliver you the quality in both frying and roasting. But even if you choose the best halogen oven, it will be weaker at frying.
Low oil content- Air fryers and halogens ovens serve food that has low oil content because they use no to very little oil to cook the food. basically, both these kitchen appliances cook food in its natural oil content. But again, if we compare both these appliances, the food cooked in an air fryer has comparatively even less oil than food cooked in a halogen oven.
Cooking capacity- Halogen ovens have more cooking capacity as compared to air fryers. Not only halogen ovens offer more cooking space, but they also have a compact design and take less space in your kitchen than air fryers.
